WEISSES GOLD
„White gold“ is one of the key materials in the Klatt Objects collection: vases, vessels, bowls, candleholders and art objects – pure white beauties in expressive forms.
All porcelain lines originate from the hand of Detlef Klatt. The pieces are crafted in small, family-run manufactories that combine exceptional expertise with traditions passed down through generations. In the development process, the designer works closely with experienced artisans and deliberately revives local, time-honoured techniques and patterns in his contemporary creations.
Surfaces, textures, patterns and finishes are carefully shaped and refined by hand. This creates harmonious series in which each piece remains a truly distinctive one-of-a-kind.
Fine bone china captivates with its unmistakable brilliance and exceptional strength, which makes the delicate, emotional designs of Klatt Objects possible in the first place – such as the filigree mesh structures that appear in various series.
The fine bone china used for Klatt Objects comes from selected traditional manufactories in the Philippines, which still use real bone ash in accordance with the original fine bone china recipe. This artisanal, resource-conscious production process gives the pure white porcelain its unmistakable colour, strength and clarity.
White gold
Fine bone china – has been considered an extremely precious luxury good in China since the Tang dynasty (around 620 AD). The recipe was long kept as a closely guarded secret by Chinese manufactories, and the pieces were coveted status symbols that were exported to Europe at great expense along the Silk Road.
The term “white gold” dates back to this period. In the recipe that is still used today, real bone ash accounts for at least 50 percent of the porcelain body. The remaining components are kaolin (clay), feldspar and quartz. The very high calcium content of the bone ash is responsible for the material’s remarkable translucency, whiteness and strength.
