Shapes of Nature

Nature as both model and muse! Detlef Klatt draws much of his design inspiration straight from nature’s own creative department: blossoms, seeds, fruits, buds, textures and shapes from native and exotic plant worlds, transformed – figuratively or abstractly – into carefully chosen materials.

Those who immerse themselves in the nature-inspired series will discover not only familiar motifs but also many exciting new facets. Like abstract artworks, the faithfully reproduced seeds of eucalyptus, corn poppy, mallow and nipa palm reveal an unexpected sculptural beauty.

The fascinating phenomenon of the rhizome finds a sculptural echo in the award-winning RHIZOM series, capturing the quiet power of hidden root systems. The distinctive tuber of the turtle plant, in turn, unfolds new possibilities for floral composition in the METAMORPHOSE TESTUDINARIA pieces, as if nature’s own metamorphosis had taken shape in porcelain. Blossoms and wood grains serve as muses for intricate surface designs, while the organic contours of the OVO plate series recall smooth pebbles – washed ashore or gently polished by water along the riverbank.

The animal world also finds its way into the collection, appearing in the form of small figurative soul-soothers such as the much-loved farm and forest animals. Designs like the wall vases PETER BARSCH, HERING ELKE and HERR KOWALSKI add a touch of affectionate humour, while the large flock of birds settles decoratively along the rims of vases and bowls.

The egg – a perfect form and, since ancient times, a symbol of creation, renewal and fertility. Klatt Objects has dedicated its signature series ERWIN to this icon of life. From the very first, true-to-life design, the nest of pure white and hand-dyed offspring has continued to grow, setting contemporary accents well beyond the Easter season.
