OUR ORIGINS
Cows are lowing. Flowers are in bloom. The view stretches far into the distance. It is here, in the midst of nature, that the multifaceted collections of Klatt Objects take shape.
By founding his premium lifestyle brand, Detlef Klatt not only fulfilled a long-held dream, he also returned to his roots: to his parents’ farm – a place whose unique interplay of nature and thoughtful landscaping has profoundly shaped his approach to design.
Louisendorf
Founded in 1820 and named after Prussian Queen Luise, Louisendorf* is characterised by a strict geometric layout centred around a village square with its church, creating a unique connection between people and nature – a composition of clear lines, open space, perspective and an almost effortless integration of nature into everyday life. The modest cornflower, Queen Luise’s favourite bloom, became Louisendorf’s emblematic flower and now appears in relief on the HEIMAT vase.
“The farm I inherited from my parents, the surrounding landscape, the nature, the place of my childhood – all of this means a great deal to me, and I am grateful to be building something new on this foundation that unites where I come from with where I am going.” Detlef Klatt
Detlef Klatt – Background
Born and raised in the nature-shaped landscape of Louisendorf, Detlef Klatt first chose a career as a gardener and florist – the starting point of a multifaceted professional journey. By 2003, he was working successfully as a freelance master florist and, early on, also as a designer in exhibition design and product development.
Through various exhibitions, teaching engagements and speaking assignments – among others in Japan, Taiwan and Switzerland – he established an international reputation. His floral work has been featured in trade journals and numerous books, some of which he also co‑authored.
In 2003, together with his partners, he founded O living GmbH, which he led for ten years as managing creative director. In 2013, he set up his own studio as an independent designer and realised projects worldwide before returning to his roots in 2019: to his family’s farm in Louisendorf, where the heart of the Klatt Objects brand now beats and past and future quietly come together.

Design with Deep Roots
The bond Detlef Klatt feels with his roots is reflected in many of his designs – from lily of the valley to the farm animals. His local landscape is a constant source of inspiration, yet the ERWIN egg holds a very special place: as fragile as it is perfectly shaped, the egg symbolises creation and new beginnings. For Detlef Klatt, it also recalls his childhood, when his parents ran a poultry farm. Today, the former henhouse is home to his office, studio and warehouse – and the ERWIN egg has become one of the bestsellers in the Klatt Objects collection.
Team spirit
Trust, respect and a deep sense of connection are the glue that holds the company together. In the small core team, Maren runs the day-to-day operations in the office and takes care of most of the communication – from processing orders to packing shipments. As a true all-rounder, she always keeps an eye on everything. Henny oversees all aspects of packing orders and shipping, and her hands-on approach makes her absolutely indispensable. And whenever extra help is needed, a well-rehearsed little team from the village is ready to step in – turning the unloading of a new container into a lively get-together and a chance to catch up on all the latest news.
*Why “Louisendorf” with “ou”?
Name background: Louisendorf was founded in 1820 in honour of the Prussian Queen Luise. However, the village bears the French-influenced spelling of her name: Luise became “Louise”, from which Louisendorf was eventually derived. This form recalls the period when the region was temporarily under French influence. In this way, the village’s name still preserves a small piece of European history today.
