Brand & Design

Klatt Objects has been a lifestyle brand for selected, responsible design art since 2020. Conscious, cosmopolitan and deeply rooted in the earth. Its founder, designer and curator is Detlef Klatt, who brings together more than 30 years of experience in floristry, design, production, publishing and retail, all grounded in a strong connection to nature.

The multifaceted collections span home accessories, vases, vessels, bowls, decorative objects and one‑of‑a‑kind pieces crafted from porcelain, wood, shells and various natural materials. Each collectible from these carefully conceived small series stands confidently on its own and, in creative arrangements, becomes a statement of a distinctive, self-assured personality.

Stylistically, the brand bears the unmistakable signature of Detlef Klatt, who, perhaps more than anyone else, knows how to unite Japanese and Nordic design approaches with the authenticity of traditional Philippine craftsmanship. The sophisticated in‑house collection is complemented by paintings and selected objects from international artists whom Detlef Klatt encounters on his travels.

“As a unifying element, my designs reflect the different influences that have shaped me over the course of my work. Above all, these are the simple, nature‑oriented design approaches of Japan and Northern Europe, but also Philippine craftsmanship and my own origins.” – Detlef Klatt

Launched in 2020, Klatt Objects has quickly grown into a true love brand. Today, Klatt Objects pieces are sold and cherished in more than 40 countries across Europe and overseas.

In 2024, the RHIZOM vase, part of the collection since the very beginning, was honoured with the German Design Award.

Lived craftsmanship

The artisanal production of Klatt Objects takes place in the Philippines, following responsible principles. Drawing on many years of experience, the designer works with a trusted network of selected artisans, family-run workshops and manufactories.

The production of the porcelain objects involves numerous precise steps – from the elaborate artistic creation of the models and the making of the moulds, through preparing the raw materials into porcelain slip and casting, to drying, trimming, firing, grinding and final quality control – all carried out with great care by hand, so that each piece becomes a unique object in its own right.

“Most of the workshops and families I work with I have known personally for decades, and I deeply value their exceptional skills. There is so much mastery here, so much creativity and joy in what they do. The fact that I come from a crafts background myself gives our collaboration an extra spark.” – Detlef Klatt

A Culture of Respect

The special respect for heritage, family and nature is also reflected in the close collaboration Detlef Klatt maintains with artisans in the Philippines. The people and workshops he works with for Klatt Objects are those he first came to know – and appreciate – through his work as a consultant and designer for the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry. Over years of intensive collaboration, networks and friendships have grown that continue to this day. Through these long‑term partnerships, Detlef Klatt supports structurally weaker rural regions, helping people to find work in their home area, cultivate their land and stay close to their families.

The selection and processing of materials follow sustainable principles. This includes the conscious choice of classic bone china, which is still produced today according to traditional recipes. For its wooden lines and carvings, Klatt Objects uses only wood from pruning, found wood or driftwood – materials whose use has a long tradition in the Philippines. The shells, meanwhile, are a – admittedly precious – by‑product of the food industry and pearl farming.
